Overview of Drug Addiction
in Los Angeles

Drug addiction. It hits like a ton of bricks.

It feels all at once and yet is something that’s inevitably been building for months or even years.

Family members and friends are left feeling utterly helpless, watching loved ones spiral further and further down. Not knowing what to do. Not knowing when to act, or even how.

When the full weight of drug addiction arrives, it washes over you like a tidal wave, leaving destroyed lives and decimated relationships, both personal and professional, in its wake.
The experience of addiction is a horribly isolating one, the drugs separating you from those you care about most. The more you take, the more your need to achieve that same high and as your tolerance builds the probability of overdose multiplies. All the while, as you become more dependent, your feelings of isolation grow.

It’s the very definition of a vicious cycle.

The stigma of addiction used to leave those struggling with substance abuse to feel like a completely marginalized and forgotten group. Shunned, ignored and left to their own devices. The lack of robust and viable treatment options served to add insult to injury at a time when care and attention were most desperately needed.

Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be that way anymore. At Inneractions, an outpatient rehab in the San Fernando Valley, we understand your struggle. Our counselors and trained mental health professionals have a combined 30+ years of experience getting people on the path of recovery and working towards that fulfilling life of sobriety that you so richly deserve.

Tasha Wilson

The group facilitators are knowledgeable and considerate. I’m a difficult person to work with and they still tried. Jess is a great 1-on-1 therapist that works through Inneractions. My favorite facilitators were Shane, Rick, and Bethany. The other group facilitators were great too. Just like anything, one will get out of IOP what they put into it.

Understanding Post-Acute Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS)

Most folks are familiar with the requirement to detox before the work of rehab can truly begin but that isn’t necessarily the end of withdrawal symptoms for everyone. The detox that happens prior to treatment is all about ridding the body, physically, of toxins and that relatively short period of discomfort is known as acute withdrawal.

That’s just the physical side of things though. Your body loses its dependency and reacclimates to a drug-free state faster than the mind and those withdrawal effects, the longer-lasting physiological and psychological ones, are referred to as post-acute withdrawal syndrome or PAWS.

It’s essentially going through a 2nd withdrawal that can last days, weeks or even months after the start of abstinence.

Rest assured; the staff at our Los Angeles treatment center know it well. We’ve seen this before and have helped countless people just like you navigate those troubled waters. Withdrawal, be it acute or PAWS, is not something you want to try and overcome alone. It’s a big hurdle to clear and the support and professional guidance from our skilled staff makes a profound difference in making it to the other side.

There’s an added layer of accountability in the form of random drug screenings to make sure your recovery stays successful.
