Los Angeles Group Therapy Sessions

Group therapy sessions in Los Angeles, CA are an integral part of the Inneractions Program. The group setting accomplishes a few things: First, it provides the community and support that clients need while navigating the recovery process. Second, groups gives clients the opportunity to tackle complex subjects in front of peers and family. The group facilitators are knowledgeable and considerate. I’m a difficult person to work with and they still tried. Jess is a great 1-on-1 therapist that works through Inneractions. My favorite facilitators were Shane, Rick, and Bethany. The other group facilitators were great too. Just like anything, one will get out of IOP what they put into it.

DeFINE Seeking Awareness with Mike

When: Weekly

Duration: 1 hr

Description: This group is a didactic informational process group. The overarching focus centers around metacognition, and the control that comes, when metacognition is a routine of reaching long-term sobriety. Clients discuss the “cost-benefit analysis”, and how being aware of these analyses in day-to-day life could help the clients stay vigilant regarding their sobriety. Within this framework of measuring cost vs benefit, the clients can then personalize the analysis, and realize that the cost of their own addictions outweighs the benefit of what they think they gain. Delving into this framework, allowing for the discussions of everything from, family, work, finances, health, and relapse prevention.

The focus of the group discussion is centered around distinguishing terms, sometimes thought to be synonymous, and breaking down the “under the surface” meaning of these terms. A client comparing and contrasting terms such as “forgiveness” and “acceptance,” is an example of the type of words to be analyzed. Clients will be able to personalize definitions, internalize their viewpoint(s), and this analysis will ultimately give them the best chance at living a centered and balanced life of sobriety.

The skills acquired by practicing impromptu role-playing and being in the moment will help the clients in every aspect of their lives.

In this group, the clients will practice the art of “ranting” (sharing) about something they feel strongly about that day, a suggested feeling or something affecting them lately, and present it to the group in a timed capacity.
