DeFINE Seeking Awareness with Mike
When: Weekly
Duration: 1 hr
Description: This group is a didactic informational process group. The overarching focus centers around metacognition, and the control that comes, when metacognition is a routine of reaching long-term sobriety. Clients discuss the “cost-benefit analysis”, and how being aware of these analyses in day-to-day life could help the clients stay vigilant regarding their sobriety. Within this framework of measuring cost vs benefit, the clients can then personalize the analysis, and realize that the cost of their own addictions outweighs the benefit of what they think they gain. Delving into this framework, allowing for the discussions of everything from, family, work, finances, health, and relapse prevention.
The focus of the group discussion is centered around distinguishing terms, sometimes thought to be synonymous, and breaking down the “under the surface” meaning of these terms. A client comparing and contrasting terms such as “forgiveness” and “acceptance,” is an example of the type of words to be analyzed. Clients will be able to personalize definitions, internalize their viewpoint(s), and this analysis will ultimately give them the best chance at living a centered and balanced life of sobriety.
